Summer fun has arrived on the Outer Banks. From here on out it's the best of the beach season with everything you'd expect from one of the top beach vacation destinations in the country. Beach lovers and their families appreciate the array of activities to be enjoyed in our Outer Banks beaches and towns whether its art and culture, history, natural beauty, on-the-water fun, entertainment, kid-friendly things to do, sightseeing, shopping, dining or all of the above. Add to that the local OBX events and festivals, and you've got the recipe for a perfect vacation.
 
Take a look at what's happening this month on the Outer Banks. June is full of fun for everyone, so grab your calendar and mark down these dates. Hopefully you'll be able to squeeze in a few of these local happenings between your beach sessions.

Soundside Live Concert SeriesConcert Series

The Soundside Event Site, Nags Head

June 1 & June 8, 2017

Mark your calendars for a highly entertaining, unique and fun-filled concert, food and beverage experience for Outer Banks visitors and locals on June 1st and June 8th. All shows, located at the Soundside Event Site in Nags Head, are a curated line-up of regional and national touring talent playing an eclectic mix of rock and roll, blues, soul, funk and bluegrass. Each show also features performances by Imagine Circus, a cirque-style entertainment troop with aerial arts, acrobatics, fire, flow arts, theatrics, dance and more. Admission is free, $10 for onsite parking and gates open at 3p.m. for all shows. 


 

The OBX Comedy Club Presents

Comedy Club of the Outer Banks, Kill Devil Hills

The Comedy Club presents the Outer Banks with live entertainment, featuring performers who serve up hilarious summer nightlife. Be sure to check out the Outer Banks events calendar, as these comedy shows are frequently listed as OBX Top 10 Things To Do for evening entertainment. With three great locations including Corolla, Kill Devil Hills, and Avon, it is unlikely that you are more than a hop, skip, or jump away from a night featuring the best live entertainment available anywhere in the Outer Banks. Vacationing families come back year after year to enjoy the entertaining shows and create lasting vacation memories.


Dare Day FestivalDare Day Festival

The 42nd Dare Day Festival happens on Saturday, June 3, 2017. Held on the Manteo waterfront on the Outer Banks of North Carolina where arts, crafts, entertainment, and family fun bring the community and visitors together. The festival’s music kicks off at 11:00a.m. with the original Rhondels on the Downtown stage. Not be missed at this year’s Dare Day is Hogway Speedway Racing Pigs, the Anything that Floats but a Boat Race, Raingutter Regatta, the annual blue ribbon competition for the best cake and pie in Dare County. New this year in the Kids Zone are kiddie rides! As the sun sets, listen to live music featuring the North Tower Band at the Boathouse stage along the waterfront boardwalk. Storm the Beach

Outer Banks Sporting Events presents the "Storm the Beach" event, a team-oriented, family-friendly obstacle/challenge course and the only adventure-themed obstacle race on the beautiful OBX beaches. Event shirts and medals awarded for all finishers plus special SWAG and a party to follow. There are  three different distances: 1 miler/Fun Run; 3 Mile Dare Ya and 5 Mile Ultimatum. Teams and/or individuals welcome.


 

National Running Day

OBX Running Company, Southern Shores

Did you know that National Running Day is held annually on the first Wednesday in June? Yep! It is a day when runners nation-wide declare their passion for running. This is a coast-to-coast celebration of a sport that is simple, inexpensive and fun. It is the perfect way for longtime runners to reaffirm their love of running and for beginners to kick-off a lifetime and life-changing commitment. The OBX Running Company sponsors this 5k and 1-mile road course starting at 7:30a.m. at the Market Place Shopping Plaza in Southern Shores. Registration is $15 and includes refreshments, t-shirt, chip timing and a custom bib. Awards are given for the top three finishers. Lace up your running shoes and come on out.


  

World Oceans Day at the NC AquariumAquarium

Celebrate all the ways you can love and conserve our oceans with outdoor activities and games, educational songs, live animal encounters, and more. Educators highlight salinity, single-use plastics, and other topics throughout the day. Outside activities are weather-dependent. World Oceans Day activities are included with regular Aquarium admission.


 

Best Day Ever

Jennette's Pier, Nags Head

Come on out for a fun day on the beach! Event highlights include: tandem surfing, body-boarding, stand-up paddling (SUP), kayaking, beach obstacle course, and fun beach games. They provide all the gear needed for a fun safe day at the beach. You only need to bring your personal items such as a towel, change of clothes, etc. At the end of the day a hot lunch is provided for all of the kids who participated and the volunteers. (Lunch is not provided for the participant’s families as it is too difficult to plan appropriately and adds to the costs.) Wrap the day up with a fun-filled celebration of all the successes with the award ceremony, where each participant receives a Best Day team surfer medal and goodie bag.


 

Rogallo Kite FestKite Festival

This annual Outer Banks festival is held at Jockey's Ridge State Park and Jockey’s Ridge Crossing and is free to everyone. The Rogallo Kite Festival includes two days of kite flying to honor Francis Rogallo, NASA scientist and inventor of the flexible wing. His inventions started the sport of hang gliding and his designs have carried over into the stunt kites, power kites and hang gliders that are flown today. In honor of Francis Rogallo and all of his accomplishments, Kitty Hawk Kites put his ideas on display through flight! Come out and see large kite displays, learn to fly various kites, kitemaking, and more fun activities.


 

BIC SUP One Design Series

Manteo

A series of free stand-up paddleboard races featuring BIC’s One Design race style SUP. This event is a fun and family-friendly competition. Brief clinics are held prior to each race, making this series great for beginners and experts alike. 


Sunrise 5k & Little Crab Crawl

Jennette's Pier, Nags Head

June 15, 2017

It’s the 6th annual event at the pier. The Sunrise 5K begins at 7:30a.m. It’s a beach run, so you whether you choose shoes or barefoot, it is totally up to you. This is a family and walker friendly chip-timed event. Awards given for top three finishers. The Children’s Crab Crawl follows at 8:30a.m. and is a 100-yard Crab Crawl following the Sunrise 5K.


 

2nd Annual Soundside Fun FairCotton Candy

Join in the fun at the 2nd Annual Soundside FunFair: a summer kick-off to benefit the Children & Youth Partnership for Dare County (CYP). It’s good, old-fashioned carnival fun for everyone. Bring friends and family to enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of a carnival with 12 fabulous rides including a giant Ferris wheel, games and food concessions, such as cotton candy, funnel cakes, chicken-on-a-stick and more. 

 

 

SUPtastic by Kitty Hawk Surf Company

SUPers unite for this fun morning of stand-up paddleboard competition! SUPtastic consists of a race around Roanoke Island Festival Park, followed by lunch and awards. This race offers 3- and 6-mile course options and is great for beginners and experts alike.

Sunset 5k & Carolina Pig Pickin'

Join in for the 6th Annual running of the Sunset Spectacular 5k & Carolina Pig Pickin’, which offers on-site packet pick up and walk-up registration that opens at 3p.m. and closes at 6p.m. at Jennette's Pier. (There is no pre-race day pickup.) This is a family- and walker-friendly, chip-timed event. Race Fee includes event t-shirt, post-race party, chip timing, digital finisher certificates, souvenir race bib and quality finisher medal for all participants. Trophies awarded to top 3 male and female overall. Post-race meal catered by High Cotton BBQ serving up fresh pulled Carolina-style pork BBQ, country potato salad, dessert, sweet tea and lemonade.


 

East Coast Grom Tour

A great entry level program for surfers that want to have fun, meet new friends and win some cool prizes. Surfers have a chance to win some cold hard cash at each event and up for grabs is a trip to Puerto Rico for the winners of each division at this annual championship event. Divisions include: Boys/Girls U10, Boys 11-13, Boys 14-16, Girls 11-13, Girls 14-16 Open Shortboard (Under 17), Open Longboard (Under 17).

Run, Swim, Run and 5k

8-9:30a.m.

Outer Banks Run, Swim, Run & 5k Splash and Dash event is an all-skill-level event. The event is located on the beach at Jennette's Pier The course is a short run out to a 400-meter ocean swim (you can doggie paddle that) and finishes with a 5k. Not ready for the swim portion? You can join the 5k only if you so desire. All participants receive a t-shirt, finisher medal, chip timing and breakfast.
