How to Run Your Way Through the OBX This Fall

How to Run Your Way Through the OBX This Fall

Fall on the Outer Banks is a beautiful time to soak up the sunny days and breathe in the salty air—and the perfect place to get your daily run in on the beach. If you're looking to join in on some OBX running events this season, we have the fall run down (pun intended). Even if you don't consider yourself an avid runner, many of the events have a fun run or walk associated with them that are great for any age and ability level. Of course, you don't have to participate by running but instead come out and cheer on those who do. You can never have enough cheerleaders and encouragers, can you?

Here are some of the best ways to run your way through the Outer Banks this fall. Hope to see you!

Outer Banks Marathon & Southern Fried Half Marathon

November 11-13, 2016 in Kitty Hawk, Nags Head, Manteo

The famed Outer Banks Marathon happens annually every November on one of the most beautiful parts of the East Coast. The Outer Banks Marathon follows its way through the natural beauty that is North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The Outer Banks Marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifying race.

If you're not quite ready to cover that much ground and embark on a full marathon, that's okay! There is something for everyone including the Southern Fried Half Marathon, the Southern 6, an 8K & 5K, and Family Fun Run medals for all finishers!

You can register for the Outer Banks Marathon here or follow the link to learn more about the event.

Advice 5k Turkey Trot

November 24, 2016 in the Town of Duck

The Advice 5k Turkey Trot is another local favorite that runs (literally) every November on the Outer Banks. This Thanksgiving morning Turkey Trot allows you to burn enough calories to eat whatever you want the rest of the holiday. Winning!

In its 21st year, the Advice 5k Turkey Trot is as traditional as pumpkin pie. Held in the beautiful OBX town of Duck each November, the event is for all ages and abilities with a non-sanctioned 5K loop beginning on Scarborough Lane and finishing up with a music, refreshments, and prize giveaways. This family-friendly, community run fills up quickly each and every year. At the writing of this post, the Turkey Trot has already reached its maximum capacity, but keep it in mind for Thanksgiving 2017.
