Hottest Events of the 4th of of July
Looking for all the best summer events on the OBX? We have the full 4th of July fireworks schedule on the Outer Banks right here. Don't forget fireworks are not allowed on the Outer Banks. Please take care to have a safe holiday.
Rules and Regulations
North Carolina prohibits the possession of any pyrotechnics which launch or propel into the air, or which explode making a sound or "report." Sparklers, fountains, and ground displays are allowed only with adult supervision, and when exercising extreme caution and fire prevention. Fireworks are illegal in Dare County, including all towns and villages.
Fire Up The Grill
We're not sure, but we almost positive the founding fathers fired up the grill after signing the Declaration of Independence. Now 242 years later it is still a staple of any good 4th of July celebration. Of course, here on the OBX, grilling means seafood. Looking for all the best ways to grill and thrill your family and friends? Check out our previous post: How To Grill Perfect Seafood Every Time. Looking for fresh seafood? Don't forget to stop by any of the many local seafood shops!
Day on The Beach
Fireworks and grilling out are just part of a great OBX 4th of July celebration. Let's face it, it is all about the beach and that pristine OBX sand and warm water. Did you know the Outer Banks is a hundred mile long barrier island? Essentially there is a hundred miles of beach to enjoy. From surfing to just kicking back with a drink while listening to the waves roll in. Any 4th of July has to include a day at the beach.
Everyone Loves A Parade
The 14th Annual Town of Duck 4th of July Parade is scheduled for Wednesday, July 4th at 9:00 a.m., immediately followed by the Community Celebration. Join in on the fun at the Duck Town Park, 1200 Duck Road. There will be live music, cold drinks, and loads of fun. The parade route has remained the same annually. The route begins at the crest of the hill on Scarborough Lane and continues towards the ocean. Then it turns left onto Ocean Way and heads down Christopher Drive ending at Duck Road (NC 12). Tips For A Great 4th of July
Few events provide seating. Many are in open spaces, and it is best to be prepared by bringing your own beach chairs or blankets.
The 4th can be hot! Make sure to stay safe by drinking lots of water, wearing sunscreen, and avoiding drinking too much alcohol.
Walk or Ride
Like any big holiday event parking can be an issue. If possible, walk, bike or carpool to events. If you want a vacation home near a special event? Give us a call. We can help you plan.
Jockey's Ridge: The Best Seats In The House
Jockey's Ridge State Park in Nags Head features the largest sand dunes on the east coast. Offering a panoramic view of the area, it is the perfect place to watch the fireworks on the Outer Banks. Of course, nature provides the seating so make sure to bring a blanket or a chair. Get there early for the best seats. The kids will love being able to play in the sand while the fireworks go off in the night sky.
