Listed below are our favorite Outer Banks date destinations. What are yours?
Go Out on the Town
There's no better way to experience the OBX nightlife than to get out and explore. Whether you want to go bar hopping, listen to live music or join the locals for karaoke, you can find it here.
Looking for a few of our favorites? We're glad you asked! We really love Mug Night at New York Pizza Pub every Thursday night in Nags Head. Of course Kelly's Tavern in Nags Head and Uncle Ike's Sandbar & Grille in Corolla are longstanding favorites with both locals and visitors alike and are great options any night of the week. Mondays are Trivia Night at the Full Moon Cafe and Lost Colony Brewery in Manteo. Sundogs Raw Bar and Grill in Corolla also offers a trivia night and karaoke.
You can also read more recommendations for the best places to go in our Outer Banks Nightlife section or our website.
Try an OBX Pub Crawl
This one deserves a category all its own. If you'd like a unique experience where you get to spend a little bit of time at some of the Outer Banks' best hot spots all in one evening, then an Outer Banks Pub Crawl is the ideal date night adventure. And we do mean adventure! You can create your own or join in the nightly pub crawls already happening on the Outer Banks. Take a look at the OBX Pub Crawl events and get ready for an unforgettable night.
Outer Banks vacations are often filled with great dining experiences at one of our superb restaurants and you and your date should experience one of these restaurants together! Tortugas’ Lie, located at Milepost 11 in Nags Head, is at date night favorite among many locals. Tortugas’ offers seafood of all types as well as sandwiches and burgers that won’t break the bank. Tortugas’ Lie has a true beach bar feel when you step inside with hundreds of license plates from all over the world, local art, Caribbean inspired dishes, and reggae music playing throughout.
For the couple searching for a more sophisticated dining experience, Owen’s Restaurant is a must with its low lighting and professionally dressed wait staff. Owen’s offers fresh seafood and steaks prepared in a way that will certainly please your taste buds. Owen’s Restaurant opened its doors for the first time in 1946 so they know their local seafood as well as anyone!
See a Show
Make your OBX date night extra special by seeing a show. The most famous is The Lost Colony where you get a chance to solve America's oldest mystery at the Waterside Theatre on Roanoke Island. Then there's the OBX Mystery Dinner where you and your date enjoy a four-course meal served by the characters themselves as you laugh your way through to solving the mystery of the evening. Speaking of laughs, the Comedy Club of the Outer Banks is the perfect place to relax and share a few laughs together.
Take a Romantic Stroll
If you are looking to watch one of our world famous Outer Banks sunsets, then Jockey’s Ridge State Park is the place for you and your date. Jockey’s Ridge is very convenient for those staying in Nags Head vacation rentals as it is located in the heart of town at Milepost 12. The park is free to enter and is quite popular during the hour before sunset. You and your date will be able to watch the sunset over the sound and Roanoke Island while walking on the tallest natural sand dune on the East Coast.
Jennette’s Pier, operated by North Carolina Aquariums, is a wonderful place for an after dinner walk as it is open until midnight during the summer months. The pier is one of the longest you will find in the country and is quite peaceful to walk on during the evening. The best part about taking a walk on the famous Jennette’s pier is that the pier only asks for a $1 donation per person.
Listen to Some Live Music
There are a many small venues on the beach to check out some live music if you and your date are so inclined. Bands of all genres play on a nightly basis during the summer time here on the beach. Roanoke Island Festival Park, The Pit, and Port-o-Call are known for their more popular bookings while Fish Heads, Mulligan’s, and New York Pizza Pub are also popular for their musical entertainment. Many of the musical venues here are outdoors with an ocean view. There is no better way to spend some quality time with your date than listening to some good tunes while taking in the sun and ocean breeze.
Go to the Movies
Taking your date to the movies is one of most classic ways to spend an evening with your date. The most popular theatre is Kill Devil Hills Movies 10. KDH Movies 10 has the most up to date movies and more movie theatres than any other location. This movie theatre’s tickets are a little on the high end at $11.00 per ticket. However, this is the theatre to visit if you are looking to see one movie in particular.
Another movie theatre option is located in Manteo on Roanoke Island. The Pioneer Theatre in Manteo has been around for decades and is locally owned. This theatre has one screen and shows one movie for a week every night at 8 PM. The Pioneer Theatre is the perfect place for the budget conscious dater as tickets are half the price of those at Kill Devil Hills Movies 10. In addition to the tickets, concessions are quite inexpensive at the Pioneer Theatre.
When's the last time you took your significant other out to the lanes? It's been too long, hasn't it? Well lucky for you, the OBX Bowling Center in Nags Head offers up a fun night out where you can bowl the night away. Try your hand at Rock-n-Bowl or hit the arcade for some friendly competition. Stop in at the cafe for a bite to eat or to quench your thirst.
Have a Romantic Night In
Let's not forget that some of the most romantic dates are the ones you spend staying in rather than going out. Your Outer Banks rental offers all of the comforts of home combined with the luxuries of a vacation. Make use of your vacation rental kitchen by serving up an intimate meal for two. Open your favorite bottle of wine and sit outside on the oceanfront deck while you listen to the symphony of the surf and breathe in the salty air. Grab a blanket and your favorite DVD then cozy up with the one you love the most and have a movie night in without the crowds of the theater. These are only a few of the many ways to enjoy the privacy of your vacation-home-away-from-home. Be creative and make the most of it!
Use these ideas to create a night to remember for you and your date. The date options here on the Outer Banks are endless if you are open to a new experience and ready to think outside the box!
