South Nags Head Beach Nourishment Starting Early
An offshore dredge headed to the Outer Banks is expected to start pumping sand onto the Nags Head beach next week, getting the town’s $34 million nourishment project started ahead of schedule.
Pumping was not set to start until the beginning of June.
On Wednesday, crews for contractor Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Co. were running pipeline along the ocean floor from offshore to the beach, Town Manager Cliff Ogburn said.
"They have two points that they have mobilized on the beach, one at Gray Eagle Street, one at Surfside,” Ogburn told the Board of Commissioners.
