Problems at Oregon Inlet
Oregon Inlet is a fishing village that relies heavily on the use of the inlet. Over the last year and half, the sand has been building up in the inlet. If the inlet loses just another 2 1/2 feet of depth, boats will not be able to go through cutting off access for boating and fishing industries. Currently, the dredging of sand costs $13,000 a day and still isn't helping. There is talk about possibly building a jetty but it is illegal off the NC waters.
