Outer Banks Event Rogallo Kite Festival
Kitty Hawk Kites has announced the 32nd Annual Rogallo Kite Festival for June 7th-8th. This two day kite event will be located at Jockey's Ridge State Park and will be free to the public.
The Rogallo Kite Festival is a long standing tradition on the Outer Banks since the opening of Kitty Hawk Kites in 1974. Kite flyers from around the country come to the Outer Banks to participate in the celebration of Francis Rogallo. Rogallo was a NASA scientist and created the flexible wing. His wing created hang gliding and has been an integral part of aviation ever since.
To honor Mr. Rogallo, Kitty Hawk Kites invites famed kite flyers from all over the country to bring large show and stunt kites to Jockey's Ridge State Park.Members of the American Kitefliers Association and Eastern League Sport Kite Association will be present. Some of the famed kites that visit every year include a 60ft octopus, a scuba diver, and the famous 100ft blue whale with baby whales.
Across the street at the Kitty Hawk Kites Jockey's Ridge location activities such as facepainting, games, and paper kitemaking will be taking place. Enjoy some music provided by local artists while the kids have a fun time.
We suggest going into the store, grabbing a kite, and heading up to the dunes to fly with the pros. Kitty Hawk Kites will also be providing free stunt kite lessons to anyone who would like to learn. Start a new hobby with stunt kites! Kites are integral to many Outer Banks sports, including hang gliding, kite boarding, and windsurfing. Learning to use a stunt kite or a power kite can lead to a new found love for other sports.
