5 Reasons to Visit the Outer Banks in 2015
When it comes the Outer Banks, our beach usually does a pretty good job of selling itself. The beautiful beach towns that make up our area are the perfect place to spend a memorable vacation with your family. In case you need a little more convincing, here are some additional reasons to visit the OBX in 2015!
OBX Brew Fest
The Outer Banks’ inaugural craft beer festival will offer tastings, workshops, live entertainment, and more! This event is set to take place May 31st, 2015 in Nags Head. Come enjoy the sights and sounds of the Outer Banks while tasting some of the best craft beer around!
Flying Pirate Half Marathon
This pirate themed half marathon will give competitors a grand tour of the Outer Banks. Those who dare to run in this fun event will pass the Wright Brothers National Memorial and the Nags Head Woods Maritime Forest on their way to the finish line. Come enjoy one of best OBX sports events of the year!
Our beaches and inland waterways are an absolute paradise for those looking to enjoy their favorite watersport. The quality waves provided by the Outer Banks have turned our area into a renowned east coast surfing destination. Furthermore, the sport of kiteboarding has seen and exponential increase in popularity over the past decade, and for good reason. The Albemarle, Roanoke, and Pamlico sounds which boarder the Outer Banks to the west consist of long stretches of shallow water. These shallow waters, when combined with the consistent winds that our area is known for, create a kiteboarder’s paradise.
The Outer Banks has been a premier fishing destination for many decades due to our easy access to both the ocean and the sound. The ever changing weather conditions force fishermen to use a variety of locations throughout the year. In addition to the near shore fishing available on the Outer Banks, our close proximity to the Gulf Stream has made us a sport fishing mecca. There are plenty of charter boats that run out of Oregon Inlet and Pirate’s Cove that will ensure you have an excellent day reeling in the catch of a lifetime. Consider staying in one of our Nags Head vacation rentals as they will put you and your crew right in the heart of all of the OBX fishing action!
WRV Outer Banks Pro
Come see some of the best surfers in the world compete in this 3 day event! Last year the event was ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) sanctioned which meant that those surfers looking to qualify for the World Championship Tour could earn qualifying points right here on the Outer Banks! The action packed contest takes place at Jennette’s Pier in the early fall. Stay tuned for more details regarding the WRV Outer Banks Pro in 2015!
