Stand Up Paddleboard
The shallow waterways of the Roanoke and Albemarle Sounds, which border the Outer Banks to the west, create the perfect area for all types of water sports. The Outer Banks have been a renowned east coast surfing destination for decades. Our location that projects out from much of the eastern seaboard allows us to pick up swell form all different types of directions. In addition, our relatively close positioning to the continental shelf allows for waves to break in a very steep and challenging fashion, offering "barrels” that are enjoyed by expert surfers. If you and your significant other would like to learn the art of wave riding, there are multiple surf schools that offer surf lessons.
Explore the inland waterways of the Albemarle and Roanoke sounds by kayak. The wetlands to the west of the Outer Banks are home to a very diverse and unique variety of birds, fish, and reptiles.
Kiteboarding is quickly becoming one of the most popular sports in our area. The strong winds of the Outer Banks and shallow sound waters make our area a kiteboarding destination that rivals any other destination in the world. Experts can challenge themselves in the ocean or sound while beginners can enjoy week long camps that are offered by our area’s many kiteboarding schools.
Go on a romantic walk or hike with your loved one and see everything the Outer Banks have to offer. Jockey’s Ridge State Park, The Wright Brothers National Memorial, and Nags Head Woods all offer hiking experiences that are unique to the area. In addition, each location is just short drive from any Nags Head Vacation Rental.
