Nags Head
Nags Head is the oldest of the Outer Banks resorts and to many it is synonymous with the Outer Banks. Since the middle of the 19th century families have been spending their summers in the seaside cottages and Nags Head Rentals that dot the oceanfront.
There are several legends associated with the origin of the name Nags Head. The one most often told is that of early residents hanging lanterns from the necks of their horses, or nags, and leading them along the beach at night. Mariners would mistake the moving lights for passing ships and be lured into dangerous shallows. Once the ship ran aground it would be plundered for supplies by the beach dwellers.
During your stay at our Nags Head Rentals, you'll want to visit Jockey's Ridge State Park, the site of the tallest active sand dune (110 to 140 feet) in the eastern United States. Jockey's Ridge, the third most popular park in the state, encompasses 484 acres and features a museum, picnic area, a one and a half mile nature trail, and a handicap accessible boardwalk trail.
